The 20th of September 1765, I have buried in the cemetery of this parish the body of Francois Rocheteau, day worker, who died yesterday aged about forty-three years of age, husband in second marriage of Catherine Thenon. Having assisted with the funeral arrangements was Pierre Thenon, Charles Roy, René Francois Michaud and other relatives and friends who have declared to not know how to sign when asked.

Author's note: René Rocheteau who married Elizabeth Delaunay in 1790 was the son of a René Rocheteau and Catherine Taisnon (Thenon) of La Revêtizon (this same village) and this document reports the deceased as being husband of Catherine Thenon (in the second marriage.) From his 1802 death certificate, we know that René Rocheteau who was the husband of Elizabeth Delaunay was approximately 36 years of age; therefore he would have been born about 1766. Perhaps the Francois that this burial record concerns may be the same person as René the.husband of Catherine Tainon If so, René would have grown up without ever having really known his father, since Francois died in 1765, but would have had a stepfather since Catherine remarried in 1767 to Pierre Clouseau (see the record below this one.)

For pursuit of the origins of Francois Rocheteau, we know from this death record that he must have been born about the year 1722 (assuming he was 43 years of age at the time of his death in 1765.)
